Cori’s Lupus Story
Living and Thriving with Lupus
For our founder, Cori Broadus, the journey with lupus began at a young age.
Diagnosed at just six years old, Cori's initial experience was marked by the unsettling reality of her body attacking itself. What started with joint pain and fatigue soon evolved into a complex landscape of symptoms that would shape her childhood and adolescence.
"Being diagnosed so young was confusing. I didn't really understand what was happening, but I knew I didn't feel like other kids," Cori recalls.
The diagnosis itself was a pivotal moment, a turning point that required understanding, adaptation, and immense strength, not just from Cori, but from her entire family.
The impact of lupus on Cori's life has been profound. Beyond the physical manifestations of the disease - the unpredictable flare-ups, the persistent fatigue, and the various other symptoms that can arise, there's been an emotional and mental fortitude that Cori has had to cultivate.
Lupus made me stronger
Growing up with a chronic illness presents unique challenges, from navigating school and social activities while managing her health, to grappling with the uncertainty of living with an invisible condition. Lupus has taught Cori resilience, self-awareness, and a deep understanding of her own body's needs.
It has, in many ways, shaped the person she is today - someone who approaches life with both vulnerability and unwavering determination. "Lupus has definitely made me stronger," Cori reflects. "It's taught me to listen to my body and to advocate for myself."
Living with lupus on a day-to-day basis is a continuous process of management and adaptation.
It involves careful attention to your body, recognizing early warning signs of a flare-up, and making choices that prioritize well-being. This can include managing fatigue through pacing activities, attending regular medical appointments, and adhering to treatment plans.
Some days might bring more energy and fewer symptoms, while others can be more challenging for Cori, requiring rest and adjustments to her schedule. Despite these fluctuations, Cori approaches each day with a spirit of perseverance, finding ways to pursue her passions and connect with the world around her.
Family is my strength
Throughout her journey with lupus, family has been an unwavering source of strength and support for Cori.
The love, understanding, and encouragement from her family have been instrumental in navigating the complexities of this chronic illness. Her father, Snoop Dogg, has been a constant presence. "As a father, seeing Cori go through this has been tough," he shared in a past interview. "All you want is for your kids to be healthy and happy. But she's a fighter, and our whole family is behind her every step of the way."
From providing practical assistance with appointments and daily tasks to offering emotional comfort during difficult times, their presence has been a constant reminder that she is not alone in this battle.
This familial support system has not only provided a sense of security but has also empowered Cori to face her challenges with courage and hope. It's a testament to the power of love and connection in living with a chronic condition, and it underscores why community and understanding are so vital for everyone affected by lupus.
